SENSES

SENSES
The primary purposes of the senses of sight, hearing, smell and taste are to help us to avoid danger, to find food for survival and a partner for reproduction, and to communicate with others. And of course they contribute vastly to our enjoyment of life.
Sight : Light waves entering the eye through the pupil are focused by the lens on the light sensitive retina. Nerve impulses from the retina travel via the optic nerves to the brain, where they are analysed so that we can interpret what we see.  Tiny muscles in the iris (coloured part) of the eye control the size of the pupil, which enlarges in dim light and contracts in bright light. The iris and pupil are covered by the transparent cornea. The sclera white of the eye is covered in front by the conjunctival membranes which also lines the eyelids and is kept moist by secretions of the tear gland under the upper lid.  Even problems related to vision such as blurry vision, inability to distinguish colors,  conjunctivitis, dark circles, double vision, eyelashes, hypermetropia or farsightedness, functional problems, heaviness in the eyes or lacrimation, inflamed, swollen eyes, myopia etc. can effectively be cured.
Eyeball movements : Ocular muscles attached to the top, bottom and sides of the eyeball move it so that we can look in different directions without turning our heads.
Smell : The olfactory area, in the lining of the nasal cavity’s roof, consists of millions of specialised cells that are stimulated by substances in the air we breathe. The stimuli are relayed via the olfactory nerves and bulb to the brain where they are interpreted as smells. Or having smell sense burnt, fishy, musky, putrid, rancid, rotten or smell sense lost, sweet or even sweet smell with breath can also be rectified through energy concept of eight ki of SuJok.
The tongue and taste : The many different tastes we recognise are combinations of flavours – sweet or blandness, , salty, sour, hot or spicy, insipid, having no taste  and bitter – which are sensed by taste buds on different parts of the tongue.  Smell, touch and temperature contribute to perception of taste. Or even problems related to tongue such as bleeding tongue or cracked one, dryness of tongue, edematic or hoarseness, pale, purplish, red or spots on the tongue, trembling, any symptoms indicates some how there is a problem in related organs.
Hearing and balance : The outer ear funnels sound waves through the ear canal to the ear drum. Three tiny bones in the middle ear transmit drum vibrations to sensors in the coiled cochiea of the inner ear.  Stimuli are transmitted via the acoustic nerve to the brain, where they are interpreted as sounds.  Also in the inner ear are three fluid filled semicircular canals, lined with special cells that detect changes in the position of the hear.  The brain controls balance by analysing messages from these canals, plus information from the eyes, skin, joints and muscles. Even problems related to ear ache, hearing lost, inflammation in the ear, ear lobe dryness, suddenly lost hearing, noises in the ear, pus formation, tinnitus or vestibular problems etc.

MORNING SICKNESS

MORNING SICKNESS
Morning sickness is marked by a group of symptoms including nausea, vomiting, dizziness, anorexia within the first trimester of gestation. It is a commonly seen disorder appearing in early stage of pregnancy. Sever condition may emaciate the pregnant woman very quickly and trigger off other diseases.  The factors are due mostly to deficiency of stomach qi, upward flux of the fetal qi invading the stomach, and pervasive flow of stomach qi.
Pathogenesis : It is caused by constant deficiency of the stomach qi, cessation of menstruation after pregnancy and hyper-function of the Pancreas Meridian which further affect the Yangming(stomach and large intestine) Meridian, leading to pervasive flowing of the feeble stomach qi together with the qi in the Chong Meridian, hence nausea and vomiting. In some cases, when the blood flows to nurture the fetus there results in insufficient liver blood and hyperactivity of liver yang accompanied by weakened spleen and stomach, leading to nausea and vomiting.
Differentiation :
Deficiency in the spleen and stomach ; Main manifestations: Nausea and vomiting of liquid or undigested food immediately after meals, fullness and distending feeling in the chest, lassitude and sleepiness, pale tongue with white coating, slippery and weak pulse during the first trimester of pregnancy.
Analysis :  Blood centred in the lower abdomen after pregnancy, the qi of the Chong (pancreas) Meridian gushes upward and the stomach qi is unable to descend due to the weakened spleen and stomach. The stomach qi does not go downward, instead, upward with the qi of the Chong Meridian, causing nausea, anorexia and vomiting right after intake of food. Weakened spleen and stomach leads to the insufficiency of yang qi in the middle jiao, manifested by fullness and distension in the epigastrium, lassitude and sleepiness, and vomiting of liquid. Pale tongue with white coating and weak slippery pulse are signs of deficiency in the spleen and stomach after pregnancy. Acupuncture with the even moment is applied to build up the spleen, harmonize the stomach and quell the pervasive flowing of qi so as to check vomiting.
Disharmony between the liver and stomach ; Main manifestations: Vomiting of bitter or sour liquid, epigastric fullness and hypochondriac pain, frequent belching and sighing, mental depression, dizziness and eye distension, yellowish tongue coating and string taut slippery pulse in the early stage of gestation.
Analysis : The stagnated liver qi travels adversely along the Liver Meridian via the stomach to diaphragm, hypochondria and chest, which causes nausea, vomiting, epigastric fullness, distending pain in the chest and hypochondrium, frequent belching and mental depression. Dizziness and eye distension are consequence of the upward  influx of the liver qi. the liver and gallbladder are interiorly exteriorly related. When there is internal liver heat fire of the gallbladder discharges, resulting in vomiting of bitter or sour liquid. Yellowish coating and string taut slippery pulse are signs of disharmony between the liver and stomach.
It is appropriate to keep the patient in bed and away from raw, cold or greasy food. In the hope of adjusting and replenishing the stomach qi, multiple meals with a little intake of food is advisable. With SuJok Acupuncture treatments one can easily improve the overall health, symptoms of morning sickness  and of liver as well as treat stress, anger and frustration, which are often associated with liver qi disharmony.

BREAST ABSCESS

BREAST ABSCESS
Breast abscess is an acute inflammation and infection with a collection of pus within the breast tissue, acute purulent disorder of the breast mostly found in lactation period after delivery. It is rare in the duration of pregnancy. People commonly affected by breast abscess – women in the child bearing age group who have recently given birth. Normally, it is caused by retention of milk in the breast due to mental depression affecting the vital energy of the liver or due to overtaking of fatty food that brings about stagnation of heat in the stomach meridian or due to obstruction of the milk duct after invasion of exogenous toxic fire into the breast through the rupture of the nipple.
Breast abscess main manifestations include redness, heat, inflammation, swelling, hardness, tenderness and pain in infected part. Also, enlargement of lymph glands in the armpit and sharp pain when the infant sucks. If left untreated, the skin darkens and the abscess eventually bursts. The person may be feverish and feel unwell, mostly occurring after the delivery. At the early stages when the abscess has not yet been formed, there is a lump in the breast accompanied by swelling, distention, pain, difficult lactation, chills, fever headache, nausea and dire thirst. Growing of the lump with local bright redness and intermittent throbbing pain indicates suppuration. If the infection is very severe, breast-feeding may have to be abandoned.
An abscess a pus-filled hollow space that can appear on the skin or inside the body. Most abscesses form just under the skin and are the result of a bacterial infection. The infection causes the immune system to activate white blood cells and chemicals to fight the bacteria. Breast abscesses can affect women between the age of 18 and 50, but they are very uncommon in women who are not producing milk. When breastfeeding, the nipples sometimes become cracked, which allows bacteria to enter, and may cause an infection. A breast infection can lead to the development of an abscess.
During breastfeeding, the suckling from the baby may cause the nipples to become tender and raw (this is called abrasion). It is normal for the breasts to feel tender during breastfeeding, but to consult if having heat or pain in either breast.
The first stage in the development of an abscess is inflammation of the breast tissue. This is called mastitis, and has the following symptoms: painful localised swelling of the affected breast, localised redness, tenderness, and the breast feels very hot. Another sign of infection is flu-like symptoms, including aches and pains, headache and a raised temperature. The infection occurs in the parenchymal (fatty) tissue of the breast, causing swelling just outside the milk ducts. This swelling presses on the milk ducts, and the result is pain and swelling of the infected breast. One may notice the additional symptoms : tender or enlarged lymph nodes in the armpit on the affected side, enlargement of the affected breast, discharge from the nipple, which may be green or pus-like, breast lump, and itching. If one can, try to continue breastfeeding. Draining the infected milk can reduce the chance of an abscess forming, and it will not harm the baby. The germs in the milk will be killed off once they reach the baby’s stomach. If an abscess has already formed, it is advisable to stop breastfeeding.
The cause of a breast abscess could be because of bacterial infection; usually a taphylococcus or streptococcus is the causal organism. The organisms enter through cracks in the nipple, particularly at the beginning of breast-feeding before the skin has ‘toughened up’. Preventative measures – try to avoid cracking of the nipples include careful cleansing, use of some paste, and not allowing the baby to suck for too long, or to ‘comfort suck’, especially during the early days of breast-feeding.
Analysis: When breastfeeding, the skin of the nipples can become grazed or cracked. This is usually a result of the baby’s gums pinching the nipple. Sometimes it happens because the nipple hasn’t been far enough into the baby’s mouth, and has rubbed against the roof of the baby’s mouth. Many sore nipples are caused by the baby not being properly positioned or latched on. Breast infections are caused by a common bacteria found on normal skin called Staphylococcus aureus. The bacteria usually get into the breast through cracks or abrasions in the nipple, and the resulting infection causes inflammation of the breast (mastitis). Although mastitis is most commonly caused by breastfeeding, it is also linked to other factors. These include diabetes, nipple piercings, lumpectomies or breast irradiation, the use of corticosteroids, having silicone breast implants, and being a heavy smoker. As the body’s immune system tries to fight off the breast infection, some of the tissue in the local area dies. This is called necrosis. A collection of pus forms, which is surrounded by hardened and inflamed tissue. This is a breast abscess.
Since the stagnated liver vital qi and obstructed lactation lead to production of heat, there occurs redness, swelling and pain of the breast with difficult lactation. the confrontation between the exogenous pathogenic factors and the body resistance causes chills, fever and headache. The pathogenic heat in the stomach disturbs the descending of the stomach vital energy, manifested by nausea and dire thirst. Unrelieved stagnation of milk may produce heat. Extreme heat causes putrid muscle, and pus follows. So there is growing of the lump in the breast with bright redness, burning and intermittent throbbing pain. The reducing method is applied to regulate the vital energy of the Liver and Stomach meridians, remove stagnation and disperse heat. The nipple is on the Liver meridian, and the breast is located in the area where the Stomach meridian is distributed. The breast abscess is caused by pathogenic heat in the stomach and the stagnation of liver vital energy. One has to remove the stomach fire in order to eliminate the accumulation of pathogenic factors to regulate the activity of vital energy and remove obstruction of lactation.
Prevention: If having breast infection, the best way to prevent an abscess forming is to continue to breastfeed. This helps to get rid of the infected milk, and will not harm the baby. Bacteria in the infected breast milk are killed in baby’s stomach. If breastfeeding is too painful, better not to continue. To help the milk flow better, try placing a warm, wet washcloth over the affected breast for about 15 minutes before breastfeeding. Massaging the affected breast may also increase milk flow.

HORMONAL IMBALANCE

HORMONAL IMBALANCE
Hormones are important for well-being of one’s life. Very often when women are in a bad mood, usually hormone levels fluctuate, and can affect mood, sexual desire, fertility and ovulation.  Means, the imbalance of hormones may impact negatively on how reproductive system responds. Every month, the female hormones estrogen and progesterone are produced. When estrogen and progesterone levels do not balance, this may have a effect on the health. The gonadotropin releasing hormone, also affects the functioning of the hypothalamus which in turn affects the pituitary gland, which then affects the ovaries, fallopian tubes and uterus. The imbalance of estrogen hormones can also cause menopause and all the symptoms associated with it. These hormones are influenced by certain factors such as nutrition, diet, lifestyle, exercise, stress, emotions, age and ovulation. If imbalance, a diet that is low in fat and high in fiber should be taken.
Often the symptoms of Hormonal Imbalance changes in menstruation ; Acne, Basal body temperature, Oily skin, Excessive hair growth, Fatigue, Dizziness, Allergy symptoms, Anxiety, Low sex drive, Headaches Weight gain, Depression, Endometriosis, Water retention, Premenstrual syndrome (PMS), Urinary tract infections (UTI’s).
Common condition that can lead to female infertility are linked to hormonal imbalance include:
Eating disorders – While hormonal changes do not cause eating disorders, an imbalance in hormones can occur in severe eating disorders such as anorexia nervosa and bulimia. When an eating disorder occurs, the reproductive hormones which include estrogen and dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) are low while the stress hormones are high. In addition, the thyroid and growth hormones are also considerably affected.
Glandular problems – Primary glands such as the hypothalamus, thyroid and pituitary glands are responsible for the production of reproductive hormones. They send signals during reproductive processes that cause various levels of hormone production. When hormonal abnormalities occur in these glands, fertility problems in women may occur. The primary glands may be affected by a wide range of underlying conditions such as weight changes, stress, medication, birth control pills and medical disorders such as hypothyroidism and tumors.
Ovulation disorders – These types of disorders are caused by high levels of androgen’s (male sex hormones) or projecting. Androgen levels promote the male sex characteristics and are responsible for the development of pubic hair and sex drive (libido).
Poly cystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) – This condition is caused by abnormally high levels of male hormone, which in turn results in high levels of lutenizing hormones as well as low levels of follicle stimulating hormones(FSH).
Abnormal cervical mucus – Irregularities related to cervical mucus include mucus that is too thick to allow sperm penetration even during ovulation or insufficient cervical mucus production in the cervical glands.
Premature menopause – Premature menopause is also known as premature ovarian failure. It occurs when women under the age of 40 lack hormones required for ovulation and menstruation as a result of a depleted supply of eggs.
Thyroid Problems – Thyroid problems may be caused when too much thyroid hormone (hyperthyroidism) or too little (hypothyroidism), interrupts cycles.

ABDOMINAL PAIN

ABDOMINAL PAIN
The upper part of the abdomen contains all the important organs of digestion and excretion-the stomach, intestines, liver and gall bladder, pancreas, kidneys and ureters – as well as the spleen and the adrenal glands.  The lower abdomen – pelvis contains the internal organs of reproduction – the ovaries, fallopian tubes and uterus in women and the seminal vesicles and prostate in men and the bladder.
Abdominal pain may result from disorders in any of these organs or the lymph glands that drain them, in the tissues that surround them, or in tissues of the abdominal wall.  Much less commonly, pain may be referred to the abdomen from other parts of the body, such as the chest organs or the spinal cord.
CAUSES :  Disorders of the stomach and intestines are among the causes of abdominal pain. They include, PEPTIC ULCER DISEASE, GASTROINTERITIS, APPENDICITIS, COLITIS, DIVERTICULAR DISEASE, DYSPEPSIA, and bowel obstruction or perforation.
Disorders of the digestive glands may be responsible, among them HEPATITIS, CHOLECYSTITIS, GALLSTONES and PANCREATITIS. Digestive system pain may be felt in the upper, middle or lower abdomen, is often spasmodic and may be accompanied by nausea, vomiting or diarrhoea.
Urinary tract disorders, including NEPHRITIS, PYELONEPHRITIS, URINARY STONES AND CYSTITIS, are possible causes.  Kidney pain is often also felt in the small of the back, and bladder disorders cause pain in the lower abdomen or genitals.
Disorders of the reproductive system can also cause abdominal pain. In women the commonest causes are DYSMENORRHOEA; disorders of early pregnancy, such as miscarriage; ECTOPIC PREGNANCY, SALPINGITIS or other pelvic infections and ENDOMETRIOSIS, OVARIAN CYSTS and ovulation pain. These conditions usually cause lower abdominal or lower back pain and may be accompanied by abnormal bleeding or discharge from the vagina. In men the commonest cause is inflammation of the prostate gland.
The severity, speed and circumstances of onset, together with the site and the accompanying symptoms will usually indicate whether the cause of abdominal pain is minor or serious.
One should consult a doctor if the pain
• is sudden and severe
• follows a blow or injury to the abdomen or back
• remains severe or gets worse over two hours
• is associated with vomiting especially of blood, fever or fainting
• occurs in a woman who is or may be pregnant, especially if it is accompanied by dizziness, fainting and or any abnormal bleeding from the vagina
• the pain is bad enough to interfere with sleep or normal daily activities
• bouts of pain are recurrent
• there have been previous attacks of similar pain due to peptic ulcer disease, gallstones, kidney stones or suspected appendicitis
• pain is persistent, even if not severe, in a child under 6 or an elderly person.
The causes of abdominal pain may be suspected from the patients description of its onset, nature, site, and other symptoms and signs. Investigations including blood tests, X-rays and ultrasound may be needed to confirm a tentative diagnosis.
Usually, GALL BLADDER pain is felt under the right ribs and may be constant or spasmodic.
PEPTIC ULCER DISEASE causes pain behind the lower end of breastbone.
APPENDICITIS pain starts around the navel and later settles in the lower right abdomen.
Pancreatic pain is felt deep in the upper abdomen.
Kidney pain is felt in the small of the back.
Pain from the uterus, tubes and ovaries is felt deep in the lower abdomen and pelvis, and may spread to the lower back or the inner side of the thighs.
A blocked ureter may cause spasmodic pain that spreads to the genitals or groin.

ANURIA

ANURIA
Anuria means cessation of urine output.  Anuria may result from severe disease of, or inadequate blood flow through, the kidneys, or a complete blockage of urine flow by anything such as stones or tumours that blocks both ureters or the bladder outlet, or obstructs the urethra by enlargement of the prostate gland. Anuria is an emergency needing urgent investigation so that its cause can be discovered and corrected, if possible. Otherwise renal DIALYSIS <artificial filtering of waste products and water from the blood> must be used to prevent death from accumulation of waste products.
BUT, with ACUPUNCTURE SUJOK, energy concept anuria means excess Yang Coldness condition and towards the Darkness condition,as non production of urine, indicates kidney failure, obstruction of ureters. One may get the positive results even from the initial one or two sessions of acupuncture, simultaneously urine output may be increased immediately.
Acupuncture is a component of Onnuri Medicine, and involves inserting of very fine, thin, metal needles into specific ‘points’ or ‘energy pathways’  located in miniature form of hands and feets.  The treatment concept is that inserting the needle stimulates these ‘energy pathways’ and unblocks the natural flow of light energy (qi or chi) through the body. Blocked qi is thought to cause disease. Unblocking qi allows the body to heal itself.
